{"id":11224,"date":"2023-11-08T17:19:04","date_gmt":"2023-11-08T17:19:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/infundpros.com\/business\/ivanka-trump-testifies-about-trump-organization-role-at-new-york-trial\/"},"modified":"2023-11-08T17:19:04","modified_gmt":"2023-11-08T17:19:04","slug":"ivanka-trump-testifies-about-trump-organization-role-at-new-york-trial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/infundpros.com\/?p=11224","title":{"rendered":"Ivanka Trump testifies about Trump Organization role at New York trial"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Unlock the Editor\u2019s Digest for free<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__content-sign-up-topic-description\"><span>Roula Khalaf, Editor of the FT, selects her favourite stories in this weekly newsletter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"article__content-sign-up-iframe close\" scrolling=\"no\" id=\"signUpIframe\" data-prev-url=\"\/register\/in-article-sign-up?ft-content-uuid=61e39b8a-652f-41a0-9796-ddb9ed251947\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<div id=\"article-body\">\n<p>Donald Trump\u2019s daughter Ivanka denied having any involvement in drafting financial statements that allegedly overvalued the former president\u2019s business empire, as she took the stand on Wednesday in the New York attorney-general\u2019s $250mn civil fraud lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>The 42-year-old, who was sworn in just after 10am in Manhattan state court, is the third of Trump\u2019s children to answer questions under oath in the trial, after her brothers Donald Jr and Eric testified last week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Wearing a dark suit over a crisp white shirt, Ivanka answered questions about her resume and her former role at the Trump Organization softly and with composure, in stark contrast to the testimony given on Monday by her father, who railed against the judge and New York\u2019s Democratic attorney-general, Letitia James.<\/p>\n<p>Asked by an attorney for the state, Louis Solomon, whether she was involved in compiling a 2011 document in which Trump claimed his net worth was well above $4bn, Ivanka said \u201cnot that I am aware of\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not involved in his personal finances,\u201d Ivanka added, referring to her father. \u201cI worked at the company\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>James\u2019s suit accuses members of the family and its entities of lying about the value of real estate holdings to obtain loans on favourable terms.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Shown an email exchange from December 2011 in which she forwarded a loan proposal from Deutsche Bank to executives at the Trump Organization \u2014 adding \u201cit doesn\u2019t get better than this, let\u2019s discuss asap\u201d \u2014 Ivanka said she thought \u201cgenerally the deal terms with Deutsche Bank were positive\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>When asked if she was aware that Donald Trump had earlier that year presented his net worth to potential lenders as being above $4bn, Ivanka replied: \u201cno\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>James\u2019s office had previously claimed that Trump\u2019s worth was nowhere near that amount in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Ivanka, who was originally sued by James\u2019s office alongside her father and two brothers, was removed from the case earlier this year, after an appeals court found the claims against her were \u201cuntimely\u201d and past the statute of limitations.<\/p>\n<p>However, the attorney-general reiterated on Wednesday in a post on X, formerly Twitter: \u201cIvanka was a senior executive at the organization who secured more favorable loans by using Trump\u2019s fraudulent statements of financial condition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ivanka has stepped back from frontline politics since acting as an adviser to her father in the White House. Trump has denounced the proceedings, and on Monday called them a \u201cdisgrace\u201d and suggested James was pursuing the case in order to torpedo his chances of being elected again in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>James, whose office filed the civil suit last year, has already notched up a significant victory against Trump, after the judge ruled ahead of trial that the defendants had indeed committed fraud and inflated the value of their assets by billions of dollars. <\/p>\n<p>The trial will determine the precise penalties to be imposed, which could include a revocation of the Trump family\u2019s business licences in New York.<\/p>\n<p>In her original complaint, James claimed that Ivanka, a Wharton graduate who was an executive vice-president at the Trump Organization until January 2017, had \u201cknowingly participated\u201d in the attempt to grossly exaggerate Donald Trump\u2019s personal fortune by billions of dollars and convey \u201cfalse and misleading impressions to financial counterparties\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyers for Ivanka, who left the company when she joined her father\u2019s administration in Washington, argued she had no involvement in \u201ccreating or disseminating\u201d statements made to Deutsche Bank by the company, and that in any case, the events in question occurred too long ago for her to be held liable.<\/p>\n<p>Ivanka, who was compelled to testify by subpoena, is expected to be the state\u2019s final witness in the case, which is due to wrap up in December.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Read the full article <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/61e39b8a-652f-41a0-9796-ddb9ed251947\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Unlock the Editor\u2019s Digest for free Roula Khalaf, Editor of the FT, selects her favourite stories in this weekly newsletter.
