{"id":11769,"date":"2023-11-09T17:52:09","date_gmt":"2023-11-09T17:52:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/infundpros.com\/business\/vice-to-end-several-news-shows-and-lay-off-dozens-of-staffers-in-hollowing-out-of-news-division\/"},"modified":"2023-11-09T17:52:10","modified_gmt":"2023-11-09T17:52:10","slug":"vice-to-end-several-news-shows-and-lay-off-dozens-of-staffers-in-hollowing-out-of-news-division","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/infundpros.com\/?p=11769","title":{"rendered":"Vice to end several news shows and lay off dozens of staffers in hollowing out of news division"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-editable=\"content\" itemprop=\"articleBody\" data-reorderable=\"content\">\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cloreopbd001kg7pd93625cpa@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n      Vice Media, the one-time digital media darling that has seen its value and influence greatly diminish in recent years, moved on Thursday to further hollow out its once prestigious news division, shutting down several shows and laying off dozens of staffers.\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clorf4wcg00033j6fpyrt2lm7@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n      \u201cTo be clear, Vice News is not going away,\u201d\u00a0the company\u2019s co-chief executives,\u00a0Bruce Dixon and Hozefa Lokhandwala, said in a memo to staff obtained by CNN. \u201cVice will continue to produce digital news, as well as Vice News documentaries, both series and films, for FAST Channels, streaming services and other partners.\u201d\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clorf4wcg00043j6fwk29pq0x@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n      In April, Vice Media ended \u201cVice News Tonight,\u201d its flagship program, citing restructuring that would result in cuts across the organization, CNN previously\u00a0reported. In May,\u00a0Vice filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy\u00a0ahead of a planned sale.\u00a0In June, the digital media\u00a0company was purchased by three investment companies, including Fortress Investment Group, for $350 million.\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clorf4wcg00053j6f45qsysr6@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n      It was not immediately known which shows would be shut down,\u00a0but Dixon and Lokhandwala said they had reached the end of their production cycle and had not been renewed by their distributors, adding that \u201ccertain roles\u201d from the shows would be affected.\u00a0A person familiar with the matter said \u201cless than 100\u201d staffers would be laid off.\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clorfhbkz00003j6f2coua0ig@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n      The Vice union responded to the layoffs in a statement via X, formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday, accusing management of \u201ccontempt\u201d for its workers and handling the actual layoff announcements in \u201csloppy fashion.\u201d\n  <\/p>\n<aside data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/twitter\/instances\/clorfdzjc000d3j6f70qz3pf4@published\" class=\"twitter\" data-editable=\"settings\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n<blockquote inline-placeholder\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clorf4wcg00063j6ft3qaromc@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n      A former senior Vice employee, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, described the cuts in brutal terms to CNN, saying that the notion the company is still committed to news is \u201cnot true\u201d and that \u201cit\u2019s all a facade.\u201d\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clorf4wcg00073j6fml2j1de9@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n      The chief executives also said they would take the current moment to \u201crestructure our overall corporate organization\u201d by consolidating the newsroom\u2019s five pillars into two lines of business \u2014 with publishing, news, and creative services under one line and studios along with TV and distribution under the other.\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clorf4wcg00083j6fl125r6o1@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n      The company will also continue its market review, which could result in closures in different countries or markets, Dixon and Lokhandwala said, describing the decision as \u201can imperative in the
