{"id":14730,"date":"2025-06-30T07:58:29","date_gmt":"2025-06-30T07:58:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/infundpros.com\/?p=14730"},"modified":"2025-06-30T07:58:29","modified_gmt":"2025-06-30T07:58:29","slug":"senate-to-vote-on-amendments-to-donald-trumps-big-beautiful-bill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/infundpros.com\/?p=14730","title":{"rendered":"Senate to vote on amendments to Donald Trump\u2019s \u2018big, beautiful bill\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Unlock the White House Watch newsletter for free<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__content-sign-up-topic-description o3-type-body-base\">Your guide to what Trump\u2019s second term means for Washington, business and the world<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"article__content-sign-up-iframe close\" scrolling=\"no\" id=\"signUpIframe\" data-prev-url=\"\/register\/in-article-sign-up?ft-content-uuid=14595d9e-e600-4b11-8201-05f1a8d16391&amp;newsletter-id=65b8fec772badb00166eafc6\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<div id=\"article-body\">\n<p>The US Senate will begin voting on amendments to Donald Trump\u2019s landmark tax and spending bill on Monday, as the US president seeks to ratchet up the pressure to pass the legislation before the July 4 holiday.<\/p>\n<p>The start of a potentially marathon voting session follows a fraught weekend in which the Senate narrowly voted to start debating the legislation, which Trump has dubbed the \u201cbig, beautiful bill\u201d and would extend tax cuts, reduce social spending and increase federal debt.<\/p>\n<p>The passage of the bill has been a priority for the president since his return to office, but it only secured a razor-thin passage in the US House of Representatives last month after days of wrangling.<\/p>\n<p>The bill would fund an extension of the sweeping tax cuts introduced in Trump\u2019s first term by\u00a0slashing spending on healthcare and social welfare programmes. It would also increase spending on the military and border security.<\/p>\n<p>Trump, who harangued and encouraged senators on his Truth Social account over the weekend, posted early on Monday: \u201cONE GREAT BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL, is moving along nicely! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Independent forecasters have warned that the bill would add to the country\u2019s already swollen debt levels, pushing them beyond the highs of the second world war.<\/p>\n<p>The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office on Sunday said that in its current version it would add more than $3.2tn to US national debt over 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>If the Senate passes the bill, the House must then approve any amendments to the legislation before it can be sent to the president\u2019s desk for his signature.<\/p>\n<p>The White House, which has insisted the legislation will ultimately shrink the debt, said: \u201cDemocrats and the media love to tout the CBO\u2019s historically incorrect scoring.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chuck Schumer, Democratic Senate minority leader, told senators late on Saturday that Republicans were \u201cscrambling to pass a radical bill, released to the public in the dead of night, praying the American people don\u2019t realise what\u2019s in it\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The cost of the bill and its planned cuts to Medicaid health services for the poor have worried even some Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>Thom Tillis, the Republican senator from North Carolina, joined Democrats in voting against opening debate on the bill, warning the legislation \u201cwould result in tens of billions of dollars in lost funding for North Carolina, including our hospitals and rural communities\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s retaliation was swift, threatening Tillis with a primary challenge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will be meeting with [challengers] over the coming weeks, looking for someone who will properly represent the Great People of North Carolina and, so importantly, the United States of America,\u201d he said on Truth Social.<\/p>\n<p>Tillis on Sunday announced he would not seek re-election and took a swipe at the country\u2019s hyper-partisan politics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn Washington over the\u00a0last few years, it\u2019s become increasingly evident that leaders who are willing to embrace bipartisanship, compromise, and demonstrate independent\u00a0thinking are becoming an endangered species,\u201d Tillis said. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Wiley Nickel, a former Democratic House representative, has already launched his Senate bid for North Carolina, a critical swing state.<\/p>\n<p>Billionaire Elon Musk has also resumed his attacks on the bill for the first time since falling out with Trump over the issue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe latest Senate draft bill will destroy millions of jobs in America and cause immense
