That\u2019s \u201cJeopardy!\u201d champion-turned-host Ken Jennings, revealing the secret to winning the popular game show. Jennings was referring to a contestant\u2019s ability to buzz in the correct answer at just the right moment \u2014 in short, you can be a smart competitor, but still lose if your timing is off.<\/p>\n

Jennings made the remarks in a recent interview with CNN\u2019s Chris Wallace. The full interview is set to air on \u201cWho\u2019s Talking to Chris Wallace?\u201d on Max.<\/p>\n

Jennings certainly knows his \u201cJeopardy!,\u201d having had a string of 74 consecutive victories in 2004. Between that run and subsequent appearances on the program, his total winnings from the show came to $4.5 million.<\/p>\n

Since 2021, Jennings has co-hosted the program with Mayim Bialik, with both having taken over for the late and legendary Alex Trebek.<\/p>\n

Jennings explained that being smart is naturally a key to success, but there are lots of contestants who meet such criteria. \u201cEverybody there can pass the same difficult test to be there,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

So, the key becomes mastering the buzzer. If you press it too early, you\u2019ll be locked out and won\u2019t be allowed to answer. But if you press it too late, you\u2019ll be a beat behind other contestants. You have to wait till the precise moment when the host finishes reading the question to buzz your way to victory.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s tricky,\u201d Jennings said. \u201cSo there is a very narrow window you\u2019re trying to find.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jennings said his \u201csecret sauce\u201d was to get a handle on the rhythms of the host\u2019s voice \u2014 in his case, that meant knowing how Alex Trebek phrased things so he could time when to buzz in.<\/p>\n

But Jennings said it wasn\u2019t that hard for him. \u201cI had been watching Alex since I was 10 years old,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cJeopardy!\u201d is now in its 40th<\/sup> season and remains as popular as ever. Jennings has been the show\u2019s only host this season, since Bialik has been out due to the entertainment-industry strikes.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
