\n A mobile billboard truck drove outside the entrance of Columbia University on Wednesday displaying the names and faces of students that a conservative nonprofit responsible for the truck says were linked to a statement blaming Israel for the Hamas terror attack.\n <\/p>\n

\n The arrival of the \u201cdoxxing truck\u201d at Columbia is the latest example of a\u00a0dangerous trend\u00a0of college students being named and shamed as\u00a0tensions over the Israel-Hamas war remain high.\n <\/p>\n

\n Photos viewed by CNN showed Columbia students following the truck and blocking it with balloons and posters.\n <\/p>\n

\n The mobile billboard arrived just as\u00a0a pro-Palestinian protest was taking place on campus.\n <\/p>\n

\n The\u00a0truck was sent by the same group that\u00a0sent a billboard truck earlier this month near Harvard\u00a0displaying the names and faces of Harvard students linked to an anti-Israel letter.\n <\/p>\n

\n The group\u00a0said the students whose names and faces were displayed on the Columbia truck were linked to a statement\u00a0published earlier this month\u00a0by Palestinian solidarity groups.\n <\/p>\n

\n That\u00a0statement\u00a0called for Columbia to \u201cend its ties\u201d with \u201capartheid Israel.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cThe weight of responsibility for the war and casualties undeniably lies with the Israeli extremist\u00a0government and other Western governments, including the U.S. government, which fund and staunchly support Israeli aggression, apartheid and settler-colonization,\u201d the statement said.\n <\/p>\n

\n Multiple Columbia students told CNN on Wednesday they were alarmed by the \u201cdoxxing truck.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cI was at once heartbroken and infuriated. I saw a number of names and classmates of friends, and I cried with anger,\u201d said a student named Lily, who asked only to be referred to by her first name out of concern for her own safety.\n <\/p>\n

\n Lily argued that the conservative nonprofit has falsely argued students are antisemites by taking excerpts of student statements out of context.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cMost (if not all) students I\u2019ve spoken to understand very well that many things can be true at once \u2013 that Jewish and Israeli lives have been lost or harmed due to Hamas terror, while the state of Israel (not to be equated with its civilian people) is committing war crimes against people in Gaza,\u201d Lily told CNN via messaging app Signal. \u201cHumanity is losing on all sides.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n Columbia did not comment but referred CNN to\u00a0an earlier statement\u00a0by the school\u2019s president, Minouche Shafik .\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cSome students, including at Columbia, have been victims of doxing,\u201d Shafik said last week. \u201cThis form of online harassment, involving the public posting of names and personal information, has been used by extremists to target communities and individuals. This kind of behavior also will not be tolerated and should be reported through appropriate school channels. When applicable, we will refer these cases to external authorities.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n University leaders also\u00a0issued a statement\u00a0condemning \u201cdisturbing antisemitic and Islamophobic acts, including intimidation and outright violence.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n That statement came after a Columbia student who was hanging up posters on campus in support of Israel was assaulted.\n <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
